Week 1: Steelers @ Falcons
We made it. The regular season is finally here. The Steelers travel to Atlanta to face the new look Falcons.
The Pittsburgh Steelers open their 2024 season on the road in Atlanta. It was a busy offseason of quarterback drama, trade speculation, and frustration from the fanbase that has not seen a playoff win in seven years. On Sunday at noon, that all goes out the window.
Before we look at the game later this week, some quick hits.
Quick Hits:
Starting left guard Isaac Seumalo will miss 3-4 weeks after straining his pec in practice. This is obviously better than the alternative of a tear and missing the entire season.
Seumalo is the team’s best lineman and extremely important on the left side.
The young line may get even younger and insert rookie Mason McCormick in Seumalo’s spot. This could put three rookies in the starting lineup with Zach Frazier and Troy Fautanu (depending on how the tackles shake out).
Who actually starts at the offensive line will be a big thing to watch throughout the week.
There is a good chance no receiver of significance is added to this roster. Van Jefferson would be the #2. Color me concerned.
Pat Freiermuth will (probably?) get an extension this week.
Cam Heyward and Najee Harris are the other options.
Outside of the offensive line, everyone is healthy.
For as much hype as they are getting, the defense better be good.
Cornerback is thin. Outside and inside. Curious what will happen there.
Later this week, we will preview the gamw. Football is back!
Thanks for reading. I’ll see yinz in the next one.
